Kim Hye-yoon returns to the screen after four years with the horror film "Salmokji." At the production briefing held on March 4 at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Kim Hye-yoon shared her thoughts on her comeback. "Salmokji" is scheduled to be released on April 8. The film tells the story of a mysterious figure captured on Salmokji Road View, and the filming crew who, while heading to the reservoir for reshoots, encounter something in the dark, deep water.
Kim Hye-yoon plays Soo-in, a PD who leads the filming crew to Salmokji for the Road View reshoot. She said, "There were many scenes where I had to express emotions through my eyes and facial expressions, so I coordinated closely with the director." She also added, "I am excited and nervous to meet the audience through a horror film."
In addition to Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, Kim Joon-han, Kim Young-sung, Oh Dong-min, Yoon Jae-chan, Jang Da-ah, and director Lee Sang-min attended the production briefing. Director Lee Sang-min explained the inspiration behind "Salmokji," saying, "Salmokji is a famous haunted spot, and I was inspired by its setting and background." He added, "The most important thing in a horror film is the character's motivation for going to a forbidden place." He revealed that while imagining a place cut off through Road View, he conceived the idea of a film about going to Salmokji to shoot Road View.
Lee Jong-won, who does not usually prefer horror films, shared that he was startled during filming. He said, "I even had nightmares just from reading the script." Kim Hye-yoon emphasized the appeal of her character Soo-in, saying, "The theme of water ghosts was fresh." Soo-in is a character who leads the team to Salmokji for the Road View reshoot and expresses emotions through her eyes and facial expressions.
Kim Joon-han plays Kyo-sik, Soo-in's senior. He explained, "Kyo-sik's appearance changes the situation," and added, "We discussed how to create a mysterious atmosphere that poses questions to the audience during filming." Oh Dong-min plays a strong soldier, introducing his character as "someone who is more confident in swimming than the water ghost."
Jang Da-ah plays Se-jung, described as "the youngest member who joins the site while running a horror channel." She explained that Se-jung is the most interested in horror among the team and shows a variety of emotions. On the day, Kim Hye-yoon said, "I could feel the fear just from the expressions of the actors opposite me."
Lee Jong-won revealed that he learned underwater filming three months in advance. He said, "I was scared to go underwater, but now I am confident." Director Lee Sang-min emphasized, "It is important that the water ghost be entrancing," and added, "The space where the boundary between water and land becomes blurred is crucial."
At the production briefing, director Lee Sang-min said, "I am nervous and excited, but also hopeful," while Jang Da-ah expressed, "I hope word of mouth will help us surpass the break-even point." Lee Jong-won emphasized that "I want to break the stereotype that horror films should be released in summer," and said "Salmokji" will be a work that stimulates all five senses.
"Salmokji" will be released on April 8, and audiences are expected to experience a new kind of horror through this film.
