The resale of tickets at inflated prices is increasing in connection with the idol group BTS's performance. BTS will hold a free concert titled "BTS Comeback Live: Arirang" at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on March 21. Tickets for this performance are already sold out. However, posts offering tickets for sale at prices ranging from 120,000 to 150,000 won are appearing on social media.
BTS's next concert in Goyang will take place from April 9 to 12. Ticket prices for this concert are set between 198,000 and 264,000 won, but online posts indicate tickets are being traded for 800,000 to 900,000 won.
In addition to ticket transfers, various illicit trading methods aimed at avoiding on-site identity verification are being observed online, such as "Aom" (ID transfer), where sellers cancel tickets and quickly secure the canceled tickets, and "Palom" (bracelet transfer), where concert entry bracelets are handed over. These trading methods are illegal and may cause legal issues related to concert attendance.
On March 5, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young emphasized the role of platforms in eradicating ticket scalping at the launch ceremony of the "Public-Private Council to Prevent Ticket Scalping in Performances and Sports." Minister Choi stated, "The BTS concert will serve as a testing ground for anti-scalping measures." He warned, "Even if scalped tickets are purchased for BTS concerts, bookings may be canceled if scalping is detected, and due to on-site identity verification, actual transfer or receipt is impossible, which can lead to fraud damage."
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is continuously monitoring online trading trends related to the BTS concert. The government is preparing various measures to eradicate ticket scalping and encourages fans who wish to attend the concert to purchase tickets through official channels.
Ticket scalping undermines the fairness of concert attendance and can damage the trust between fans and artists. Therefore, it is expected that social awareness of the ticket scalping issue will increase with this BTS concert.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to strengthen policies to prevent ticket scalping in the future and strives to ensure fairness in concert attendance. Fans should purchase tickets officially through authorized sellers and be cautious not to become involved in ticket scalping.
