Park Myung-soo: "'The Man Living with the King' surpasses 10 million viewers, fun is the secret to attracting the audience"

Broadcaster Park Myung-soo made candid remarks about the success of the movie 'A Man Who Lives with the King' and the current state of the film industry. On the March 9 broadcast of KBS CoolFM's 'Park Myung-soo's Radio Show,' Park congratulated the film 'A Man Who Lives with the King' for surpassing 10 million viewers. The movie, set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457, tells the story of a village chief and a young former king, and as of March 8, its 33rd day since release, it recorded a cumulative audience of 11 million.

Park Myung-soo said, "'A Man Who Lives with the King' has exceeded 10 million. How long has it been since we've had a 10 million movie?" congratulating the film's success. He continued, "Many viewers go to see movies if they are fun. Instead of wondering 'Why aren't movies doing well, why aren't audiences coming?' we need to make movies enjoyable." This was also mentioned in the December 26 broadcast last year, where Park stated that the reason for the decline in movie theater audiences is "because the movies aren't fun," and insisted, "If you make fun movies, audiences will definitely come."

During the broadcast, Park Myung-soo had a conversation with actor Lee Dong-hwi, who returned with the movie 'Method Acting.' Lee promoted the film, which he co-produced, saying, "I also drastically reduced my guarantee to make this movie. The director and producer are both my friends of 20 years." He explained, "The three of us united with the goal of 'Let's achieve a dream once' and made this movie," mentioning the cast members.

Park asked Lee, "Is there a reason you personally participated in production?" Lee replied, "Now, it's not just about thinking of myself. When you make a movie, actors and staff also get jobs." He mentioned Ma Dong-seok as a role model, saying, "Watching senior Dong-seok, I thought, 'If you work hard making movies like that, many people can have jobs,' so I decided to start my dream by participating in production."

Lee explained the title 'Method Acting' by saying, "'Method acting' is the process of 'deeply immersing oneself and becoming that character.' Actor Park Ji-hoon, who appeared in 'A Man Who Lives with the King,' also lost weight by eating only apples and tried to connect his expression to real life." After hearing Lee's explanation, Park Myung-soo once again congratulated the film's success, saying, "'A Man Who Lives with the King' has exceeded 10 million. How long has it been since we've had a 10 million movie?"

Park clearly expressed his opinion on the current state of the film industry, emphasizing that audience expectations have risen. He said, "The level of the audience has become that high. There is no other way. Comedians have to be funny, and movies have to be fun." This implies that filmmakers and actors must strive to meet audience expectations.

Park Myung-soo's remarks provide deep insight into the film industry and remind of the importance of movie production to attract audience interest. He argued that the quality of movies directly affects audience numbers and urged filmmakers to create higher-quality works.

Such remarks reflect the current situation of the film industry and are expected to contribute to strengthening communication with audiences. Through the broadcast, Park pointed out problems in the film industry and called for efforts to create a better movie environment.
