Park Bo-gum transforms into a gladiator... The atmosphere heats up on the set of 'Sword' crank-in


Actor Park Bo-gum takes on an action historical drama in director Kim Han-min's new film, "Kal: Godumakhan's Sword." This movie is Kim Han-min's next project, continuing the successful lineage of action historical dramas such as "The Admiral: Roaring Currents," "Hansan: Rising Dragon," and "Noryang: Sea of Death." "Kal: Godumakhan's Sword" began principal photography on the 3rd. The production team announced the start of the project by releasing stills from an activity reading session featuring the main cast.

The film is set immediately after the fall of Goguryeo. The protagonist is a man who has lost his memory and become a slave, entering a gladiator tournament to claim a legendary sword. This blockbuster action historical drama centers on the protagonist's journey to recover his past. The activity reading held before filming was attended by director Kim Han-min, actors, and the production team. This reading was conducted as a rehearsal that combined script reading with action blocking and acting. The actors immersed themselves in their characters, exchanging lines and actions to deepen the narrative.

Park Bo-gum plays Chilseong, a warrior who has lost his memory. Chilseong is thrown into a slave gladiator arena after the fall of Goguryeo and survives under extreme conditions without knowing his past. He is expected to portray the character's story with unwavering eyes and intense gladiator action.

Joowon plays Gye Pilha-ryeok, who opposes Chilseong. Gye Pilha-ryeok represents the Turkic people and participates in the allied gladiator tournament. He is characterized as a warrior with cold judgment and strong charisma, showcasing high-level action using dual swords. Jung Jae-young plays Heuk Soo-gang, the leader of the Goguryeo restoration army, Damul-gun, portraying a leader who maintains stability in chaotic times. Lee Sun-bin plays Maya, a member of the restoration army, delivering strong character presence along with action performance.

Vietnamese actor Tran Tan appears as Seol In-gwi, the governor of Andong Protectorate under the Tang Dynasty, conveying the weight of a figure leading northern affairs. Kim Jae-chul, known for his presence in the film "Pamyoh," plays Yalü, a strategist of the Khitan, portraying a character with cool judgment. Choi Gwi-hwa is cast as Daehajin-chung, the great chieftain of the Khitan, leaving a strong impression. Park Myung-hoon appears as Pungsa, a former gatekeeper of Liaodong Fortress, adding tension to the story.

Lee Soon-won joins as Jeok In-geol, Seol In-gwi's strategist and the overall host of the gladiator tournament, strengthening the narrative. "Kal: Godumakhan's Sword" is in production with a planned release in 2027. Through its diverse characters and complex storyline, the film aims to leave a deep impression on audiences. The combination of director Kim Han-min's direction and the actors' performances is expected to open a new chapter in action historical dramas.
