Serial killer of motels in Gangbuk revealed... Gave a "drugged drink" to a woman in her 20s

The identity of Kim So-young, the suspect in the "Gangbuk Motel Serial Murder Case," has been disclosed. On March 9, the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office decided to reveal Kim So-young's (20) name, age, and criminal identification photos. This disclosure was made in accordance with the Serious Crime Identity Disclosure Act. The prosecution can refer suspects accused of serious crimes such as violent offenses to the Identity Disclosure Review Committee to determine whether to disclose their personal information.

Kim So-young is accused of giving beverages containing benzodiazepine-class sedatives, a type of narcotic, to three men in their 20s from mid-December last year until February 9. In this case, the victims lost consciousness; two of them died, and one is reported to have received treatment and recovered. The police judged that Kim So-young had intent to kill and transferred her to the prosecution on February 19 on charges of murder, special injury, and violation of the Narcotics Control Act.

In police investigations, Kim So-young stated, "It is true that I mixed prescribed psychiatric medication into hangover relief drinks and gave them to the men." However, she claimed she did not know the victims would die. Despite this statement, the police determined her intent as murder and applied murder charges rather than charges of injury resulting in death.

The police have identified two additional presumed victims and are continuing their investigation. Currently, Kim So-young is in custody undergoing prosecution investigation, and inquiries into the full details of the case and additional victims are ongoing. This case has caused significant social shock and heightened awareness of violent crimes.

The disclosure of Kim So-young's identity is interpreted as a measure for crime prevention and victim protection. The Serious Crime Identity Disclosure Act is enforced considering the severity of the crime and its social impact, and similar identity disclosures may occur in future cases.

This case has sparked considerable social controversy, with active discussions on crime prevention and victim protection. The police and prosecution are doing their utmost to uncover the truth of the case and continue investigations to identify additional victims.

Kim So-young's case raises awareness about crime and reaffirms the necessity of legal measures for social safety. The police plan to continue thorough investigations to fully understand the case.
