Cha Eun-woo purchases land in Ganghwa Island the size of three soccer fields... Secures 5,700 pyeong for 1.7 billion won

It has been confirmed that Cha Eun-woo purchased approximately 5,700 pyeong of land in the Incheon Ganghwa-gun area under a personal corporation. According to MBC's current affairs program "Straight," the corporation Dianny, established by Cha Eun-woo's mother, purchased 14,973m2 (about 4,500 pyeong) of land in Bureun-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, in July 2020 for 1.75 billion KRW. Approximately 800 million KRW, about 45% of this amount, was reportedly financed through a loan. There was an eel restaurant operated by Cha Eun-woo's family on the land, but demolition work is currently underway.

Dianny also purchased additional land afterward. In February of last year, it bought 2,069m2 (about 1,230 pyeong) of land located right in front of the restaurant for 1.1 billion KRW. As a result, the total land area owned by Cha Eun-woo's family amounts to the size of three soccer fields.

It was revealed that Cha Eun-woo has been receiving a portion of his agency's profits through a personal corporation, sparking controversy. It is reported that his agency, Fantagio, has been settling profits separately with both Cha Eun-woo as an individual and the Dianny corporation. When celebrities receive income directly from their agencies, a maximum income tax rate of 45% applies, but distributing income through a corporation subjects it to corporate tax rates, reducing the tax burden. The National Tax Service judged that Cha Eun-woo used the personal corporation for tax evasion purposes and reportedly imposed a tax penalty of about 20 billion KRW.

The National Tax Service also raised the possibility that Dianny is a "paper company" operated without substantial business activities. In response, Cha Eun-woo's side refuted this by explaining the background of the corporation's establishment. They stated, "During the multiple changes in Fantagio's CEO, there was significant anxiety about the stability of entertainment activities, and to protect this, his mother directly operated the management business." They also clarified, "The corporation is officially registered as a cultural and artistic planning business and is not a non-existent paper company."

Cha Eun-woo's side is currently appealing the National Tax Service's judgment by filing a "pre-assessment review." Fantagio stated, "This matter has not been finally confirmed or notified," and added, "We plan to actively provide explanations through proper procedures regarding the legal interpretation and application issues involved."

Cha Eun-woo enlisted in the military in July last year and is currently serving in the Army Band. Through his social media, he said, "As a citizen of the Republic of Korea, I am deeply reflecting on whether I have been strict in fulfilling my tax obligations," and "I will humbly accept the results according to the final judgment and take responsibility."

Dianny, Cha Eun-woo's one-person agency, has become the center of attention due to allegations of tax evasion amounting to 20 billion KRW and the purchase of large-scale real estate. "Straight" covered the reality of celebrities abusing one-person agencies in this regard and visited the eel restaurant registered as the agency's location in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon. A local resident near the restaurant said, "There was a large promotional sign saying it was an eel restaurant frequented by a celebrity, but it has been about six months since it was demolished due to remodeling."

It was confirmed that Cha Eun-woo's one-person agency purchased the building and land including the charcoal-grilled eel restaurant and nearby forest land in July 2020. The total area is 14,973m2 (about 4,500 pyeong), and the purchase price was 1.75 billion KRW. Of this, 800 million KRW was financed through a loan under the corporation's name. Additionally, the company purchased 2,069m2 (about 1,230 pyeong) of land right in front of the restaurant for 1.1 billion KRW in February last year.

The broadcast raised suspicions about the purpose of the real estate purchase, stating, "Despite purchasing a large-scale property equivalent to three soccer fields, there is no clear evidence of substantial management activities as an entertainment agency."

Cha Eun-woo's side explained, "His mother has been performing substantial management duties to support his entertainment activities," and added, "We are currently undergoing related procedures to receive a lawful judgment based on supporting evidence."

In December last year, Cha Eun-woo was notified of a tax penalty amounting to 20 billion KRW for allegedly evading taxes by distributing income through the one-person agency established by his mother. He stated that he will provide explanations through lawful procedures such as tax reviews and said, "I will humbly accept the results according to the final judgment made by the relevant authorities and take responsibility."
