Singer Nam Taehyun has been brought to trial on charges of drunk driving. At the sentencing hearing held at the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 11, the prosecution requested a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison and a fine of 1 million won for Nam Taehyun. The prosecution emphasized that Nam Taehyun committed the crime again despite having a prior record of punishment for drunk driving. In particular, considering that Nam Taehyun was on probation at the time of the incident, the prosecution stated that the responsibility for the crime is not light.

Nam Taehyun's legal representative stated, "He fully confessed to the crime and cooperated sincerely with the investigation," and added, "Although there was no evidence related to drug offenses, he unusually submitted urine and hair samples to the investigative authorities." It was also conveyed that Nam Taehyun is currently experiencing difficulties to the extent that he cannot go out due to social stigma and is trying to live as an ordinary citizen.

In his final statement, Nam Taehyun said, "I gained popularity, honor, and financial rewards at a young age, but I was not mentally prepared," and added, "I understand that my past actions are unacceptable, and I will ensure that the same thing does not happen again."

The incident occurred on April 27 of last year. Nam Taehyun was driving a vehicle near Dongjak Bridge on Gangbyeonbuk-ro heading toward Ilsan while under the influence of alcohol and collided with the central divider. At the time, Nam Taehyun's blood alcohol concentration was 0.122%, exceeding the license cancellation standard of 0.08%. It was confirmed that he was driving at 182 km/h in an 80 km/h speed limit zone when the accident occurred. There were no casualties from the accident, but Nam Taehyun has a prior record of drunk driving.

In January 2024, Nam Taehyun was sentenced to 1 year in prison with 2 years of probation for violating the Narcotics Control Act. This drunk driving incident occurred during his probation period. The police requested an arrest warrant, but the court dismissed it, citing no concern over evidence tampering.

Nam Taehyun also received a summary order to pay a fine of 6 million won for drunk driving in March 2023. Due to this, the court's judgment on this case is drawing attention. The sentencing for Nam Taehyun is scheduled for the 9th of next month.
