This film depicts the exile story of Danjong of Joseon, leading to a rise in popularity for related movies and dramas. According to the Korea Film Council's online screening integrated network, last month, the number of purchases for the movie "The Face Reader" on IPTV was 928, a 1,137.3% increase compared to the previous month. This month's purchase count is 755, ranking 40th among movies. The ranking rose by 57 places compared to February.
"The Face Reader" tells the story of Nae-gyeong, Joseon's top physiognomist, caught in the whirlpool of history. Set against the backdrop of the 1453 coup, the Gyeyujeongnan, led by Prince Suyang to usurp the throne from his nephew Danjong, this film was released in 2013 and attracted 9.13 million viewers. The first appearance of Prince Suyang, played by Lee Jung-jae, is regarded as a memorable scene still talked about today. "The Face Reader," a prequel depicting Prince Suyang's rise to power, has drawn attention for its connection to "The Man Who Lives with the King."
According to Netflix's official site, "The Face Reader" ranked 7th in domestic movie viewing from the 2nd to the 8th of this month. This is a one-rank rise from 8th place the previous week, marking its second consecutive week in the "Top 10."
The Netflix series "Weak Hero" is also gaining attention. This drama stars Park Ji-hoon, who played Danjong in "The Man Who Lives with the King." "Weak Hero: Class 2" ranked 8th in the domestic show category from the 2nd to the 8th, entering the "Top 10" for the second week.
