Kim Nam-gil transforms into King Sejo in 'Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land'... "I feel burdened acting as a historical figure"

Actor Kim Nam-gil has taken on the role of King Sejo in the film "Mongyudowondo." On the 14th, he appeared on the YouTube channel "TteunTteun" program "100 Minutes Talk Is Just an Excuse" and shared his feelings while preparing for the film's release. Kim Nam-gil said, "We are preparing for the release of the film 'Mongyudowondo.' Since it shares the same historical background as 'The Man Who Lives with the King' directed by Jang Hang-jun, it is also becoming a topic of interest."

Regarding his role as King Sejo, Kim Nam-gil explained, "Our film also features King Danjong, and Park Bo-gum plays Prince Anpyeong, Sejo's younger brother." He expressed his concerns about his role in "Mongyudowondo," saying, "I tried not to objectify Prince Suyang, but because of 'The Man Who Lives with the King,' that effort disappeared. It's not so much about the film's outcome but because they share the same historical background and worldview."

Yoo Jae-suk empathized with Kim Nam-gil's concerns, adding, "(Kim) Nam-gil had his own vision of King Sejo he wanted to portray, but because of the earlier release of 'The Man Who Lives with the King,' an image of Sejo was already established, so he is worried about whether the gap between what he wants to express and what the audience perceives will be well conveyed."

The film "Mongyudowondo" tells the story of brothers "Suyang" and "Anpyeong," who each dream of different utopias after the completion of the painting "Mongyudowondo," which depicts a beautiful yet strange landscape seen in a dream. It centers on the dramatic moment in the Joseon dynasty when Prince Anpyeong, King Sejong's son, dictated the ideal utopian landscape he saw in his dream to the painter An Gyeon, who completed the painting "Mongyudowondo" in three days.

Kim Nam-gil stars alongside Park Bo-gum and Lee Hyun-wook, and the film is gaining attention as a drama that combines historical facts from the Joseon era with imagination. "Mongyudowondo" is praised for providing visual enjoyment to the audience while exploring the complex emotions of historical figures.

Kim Nam-gil showed his determination to communicate with the audience through his portrayal of King Sejo in this film. He stated, "King Sejo is a character with complex emotions. How to express him is my biggest concern."

Directed by Jang Hang-jun, the film "Mongyudowondo" is highly anticipated, and attention is focused on how Kim Nam-gil's deep contemplation and preparation for the role of King Sejo will resonate with the audience.
