BTS Teases 'Arirang' Project, Bridging 130 Years of History

The group BTS is set to deliver a deep resonance to fans worldwide through a new project that reinterprets traditional Korean melodies.

On the 13th, the "Arirang" animation trailer was released on the HYBE LABELS official YouTube channel, garnering significant attention. This video is deeply meaningful as it is based on important records of modern Korean history, moving beyond simple music promotion.

The project was inspired by the true story of seven young Koreans recorded in Washington, D.C., on July 24, 1896. This story, which was also reported in the Washington Post at the time, holds historical value as it contains the first-ever recording of "Arirang" in the voices of Koreans. The animation visually realizes this historical moment by combining it with the narrative of BTS.

The released video features a sensible production where the past and present intersect. It shows the members listening to sounds of the past through a phonograph, alongside images of young men in 1896 traveling toward a new world on a massive steamship.

By overlapping BTS's journey from their early debut in 2013 to their current global presence, the project highlights the essence of a "love song" that transcends time.

The video asks, "What is your love song?" symbolically showing that Arirang, which contains the joys and sorrows of the Korean people, has been sublimated into a universal message of love.

The date "2026 MARCH 20" is specified at the end of the trailer, raising fans' expectations. Attention is focused on how the Arirang sung lonely in a foreign land over 130 years ago will be reborn through the voices of BTS, the 21st-century global icons.

Through this project, BTS is expected to share Korea's unique emotions with the world and once again form a deep bond that transcends borders and generations through music.
