Cha Eun-woo, a member of the group Astro, will hold a photo exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. This exhibition is notable as his first official schedule revealed after the tax controversy. Cha Eun-woo will hold the photo exhibition "Afterimage" in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan, from the 28th to May 12th. The exhibition is a project composed of photos capturing Cha Eun-woo's daily life and emotions.
Considering Cha Eun-woo's popularity and fan base in Japan, his photo exhibition is regarded as an important event. Japan is a region where Cha Eun-woo has steadily gained popularity through activities with Astro and as an actor. Fans will be able to see various sides of Cha Eun-woo off stage through this exhibition. The admission fee for the exhibition is 4,000 yen, approximately 37,000 KRW. Merchandise related to Cha Eun-woo will also be sold on-site.
Cha Eun-woo is currently serving in the military and has been assigned to the Army Band since July last year. His agency Fantagio stated that this exhibition is a project contracted as early as August 2024 and is proceeding according to the originally agreed schedule.
In January, Cha Eun-woo was fined approximately 20 billion KRW in income tax by the Seoul Regional Tax Office. This case is known as the largest tax fine in the entertainment industry to date. The tax office judged that Cha Eun-woo attempted to evade taxes through a corporation established with his mother. It appears that Cha Eun-woo set up a paper company to apply a lower corporate tax rate in the 20% range instead of the 45% personal income tax rate. The tax office analyzed that the corporation did not provide substantial management services.
Cha Eun-woo expressed his apology regarding the tax controversy through social media. He stated, "I sincerely bow my head and apologize. I am deeply reflecting." However, he has appointed a major law firm as his representative to contest the tax office's decision and has filed a "pre-assessment review."
Cha Eun-woo's side explained, "During the process of multiple changes in Fantagio's CEO, there was significant anxiety about the stability of entertainment activities, and to protect this, his mother directly operated the management business." They also refuted, "The corporation is a formally registered company in the field of public culture and arts planning and is not a paper company without substance."
Fantagio stated, "Cha Eun-woo's mother has been performing management duties to support his entertainment activities, and based on supporting evidence, procedures are underway to receive a lawful judgment." They added, "This is not a finalized or notified matter," and "We plan to actively clarify the issues related to legal interpretation and application through proper procedures."
This photo exhibition is Cha Eun-woo's first official activity since the tax controversy and is attracting public attention. Through this exhibition, Cha Eun-woo plans to share his daily life and emotions with fans. Fans will have the opportunity to see various sides of Cha Eun-woo through the photos. Interest in Cha Eun-woo's future activities is expected to continue.
