Seohyun, a member of the girl group Girls' Generation, took the stage as a violinist. On March 13, she appeared at the 8th regular concert of the Sol Philharmonic Orchestra held at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul. The news that Seohyun would participate as an amateur collaborator and special guest drew much attention.
Seohyun learned the violin for four years during elementary school and prepared for this performance for seven months starting in August last year. However, some criticized that Seohyun was given the opportunity to perform on stage due to her celebrity status despite insufficient skills, sparking a controversy over preferential treatment.
On stage, Seohyun performed Vittorio Monti's "Czardas." For the encore, she played Girls' Generation's debut song "Into the New World" on the violin accompanied by the orchestra. On the 16th, Seohyun shared her thoughts on the performance on her SNS along with a photo of her calloused hands from violin practice.
Seohyun stated, "It was a great honor and a happy and grateful time to be able to take on a new challenge in my life through this performance." She added, "When I first decided to take on this challenge, fear came first. Although I was invited as a special collaborator for an amateur performance, not a major, and the concert was a festival for music-loving hobbyists, it was true that I felt a lot of pressure and burden wondering if I could perform well on such a big stage for my first violin performance."
Seohyun said, "During the preparation process for this performance, I received support and encouragement from truly wonderful people, which helped me gradually let go of doubts about my shortcomings and face this challenge with a happy heart." She also conveyed, "Although clumsy, I sincerely thank everyone who shared our heartfelt performance. I hope classical music can be closer to more people in their daily lives and bring small joys."
Seohyun participated in this concert as a form of talent donation, and the concert proceeds will be donated to orchestras for people with disabilities. Her agency disclosed this information. Seohyun's challenge moved many people and became an opportunity to increase interest in classical music.
