BTS, 'Arirang' comeback show in Gwanghwamun... Live broadcast to 190 countries

BTS will hold a comeback performance at 8 p.m. on March 21 at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul. This performance is to commemorate the release of their fifth full-length album, "Arirang," and will be broadcast live in 190 countries worldwide through Netflix. The performance will feature the first live presentation of several songs, including the new track "Swim."

BTS member RM said ahead of the comeback show, "I got injured while practicing for a great stage. I will adjust the performance according to my condition but will do my best." He added, "Above all, I want to repay those who have been waiting for the performance with a great show."

Jin said, "I'm very nervous. I never thought I would perform at Gwanghwamun Square," and added, "All of this is thanks to many people who prepared together. I want to express my gratitude to everyone." Suga said, "It has been busy preparing for the world tour and the Gwanghwamun comeback show at the same time. It was a meaningful time as the whole team focused in one direction."

J-Hope said, "There is pressure because it is a big event watched by the whole world, but that makes me want to do better, so I am preparing the stage with that mindset," and vowed, "Since it's a stage we haven't stood on together for a long time, I will maintain energy and focus until the end." Jimin said, "I feel as nervous as I am excited. Meeting fans makes the excitement even greater. I will focus so that those emotions can be well conveyed on stage."

V said, "I'm happy," and added, "We prepared solidly and practiced hard every day. I hope to finish the stage safely with a good performance." Jungkook said, "I'm excited and nervous. Although I feel thrilled, I also have worries, so I prepared even more. I will create a stage without regrets."

This performance features an opening production set against the backdrop of Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbokgung Palace. RM explained, "To make the most of the symbolic space of Gwanghwamun, we designed the set with an open cube structure," and added, "It was designed so that Gwanghwamun and the stage do not block each other." Jin elaborated, "The cube structure is the core device of the stage. Everyone thought deeply about the stage setup, and the cube became the solution."

Suga said, "I always prepare the stage with the mindset of showing something new," and added, "This time, through collaboration with overseas directors, we were able to implement unique points." The overall director of this performance is Hamish Hamilton, who directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics and the Super Bowl halftime show in the United States.

J-Hope said, "When you see the stage setting, you will feel as if Gwanghwamun is framed inside a picture frame," and added, "The scene where BTS's performance fills that frame will be symbolic." Jimin expressed anticipation, saying, "Since the album title is 'Arirang,' it would be great if there is a scene where we sing 'Arirang' together at Gwanghwamun."

V said, "The cube that clearly captures Gwanghwamun as the background is the most notable part," and added, "It feels honorable and special just to be able to perform in that space." Jungkook said, "The stage is divided into three zones, and many parts of the song arrangement have been newly prepared."

"BTS Comeback Live: Arirang" is expected to establish itself as more than just a comeback show, serving as an event that connects the world through music and spreads the charm of Korea's cultural heritage. "Arirang" is an album that contains BTS's identity and the universal emotions they face, with Chairman Bang Si-hyuk serving as the executive producer. The new release takes its title from Korea's representative folk song "Arirang," expressing BTS's roots and current feelings through music.

The fifth full-length album "Arirang" sold 3.98 million copies on its first day, topping the Hanteo daily chart. This surpassed the team's previous record of 3.37 million copies sold in the first week in just one day. BTS is expected to once again prove their influence in the global music market with this comeback.
