With BTS's comeback, the entire city of Seoul has transformed into a cultural stage. On the afternoon of the 20th, the urban project celebrating the release of BTS's new album "Arirang" (ARIRANG), titled "BTS THE CITY ARIRANG SEOUL" (hereafter "The City Seoul"), began. This project combines Seoul's history and culture with BTS's brand to offer a variety of enjoyable experiences.
At 7 p.m. that day, a media facade was displayed at Sungnyemun, National Treasure No. 1. As the gate in the fortress wall opened, BTS's majestic silhouette appeared, and the members holding traditional lanterns leisurely strolled in the light, projected onto the stone wall. The red hue, the key color of the new album, enveloped Sungnyemun, breathing new life into Seoul's historical value. Citizens who visited the site expressed admiration for the harmony between traditional architecture and BTS.
At Ttukseom Hangang Park, a drone show adorned the night sky, and a large outdoor advertisement was installed at Gwanghwamun Square, turning the entire downtown area into an open-air exhibition space. These spectacular sights provided citizens with a special experience. The most distinctive feature of "The City Seoul" is that it created a cultural space not only as a fandom festival but also for all citizens to enjoy.
At Yeouido Hangang Park, the "Love Song Lounge" attracted citizens and family visitors from early morning. Interactive content centered on songs and busking performances added fun and emotion to everyday life. So many people visited Hangang Park that an instant photo booth was additionally installed, and by evening, the crowd grew even larger. Foreign tourists who visited Korea to enjoy the "BTS Comeback Live: Arirang" performance, held at 8 p.m. on the 21st alongside BTS's new album release, also made up a significant portion of the attendees.
A cube-shaped sculpture installed in the courtyard of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art caught the attention of citizens. The sea-colored exterior, inspired by BTS's new title track "SWIM," displayed the phrase "KEEP SWIMMING," conveying the song's message. Tassels attached to the sculpture swayed in the wind, spreading sounds like waves, offering a healing moment in the heart of the city.
Stamp rallies were held at major locations such as Yeouido and DDP, with many people participating. Big Hit Music stated, "With thorough preparation and smooth operation, the event concluded safely, demonstrating a mature festival culture."
"The City Seoul" will continue for a month until April 19. After the red media facades at Sungnyemun and Namsan Seoul Tower, programs highlighting various charms of the city, such as DDP ARMY Square and Cheonggyecheon Love Quarter, will sequentially welcome citizens. BTS's comeback has made Seoul the center of a global cultural festival.
