Yoo Seung-eun, who won the bronze medal in the snowboard 'Big Air' event at the 2026 Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics, appeared on the broadcast program "The Manager" to share her experiences. In the episode aired on March 21, Yoo Seung-eun explained her snowboard equipment and the process of qualifying for the Olympics.
Yoo Seung-eun revealed the reason she competed on the Olympic stage using a 500,000 won board. She said, "Usually, athletes receive sponsorships and ride custom-made boards. But I couldn't get a sponsorship, so I bought an off-season product." She added, "There wasn't much difference from a new product. I told my mom to buy a cheap board." These remarks suggest that she has faced financial difficulties.
Yoo Seung-eun won a medal just two months after joining the national Olympic team in December last year. She explained, "Due to an ankle injury, I couldn't compete in all the events and couldn't accumulate the points needed to qualify for the national team. I was ranked 55th before, but I secured the spot by finishing second in the last competition." This shows that her achievement was not simply a matter of luck.
Yoo Seung-eun attracted attention by successfully performing a triple cork 1440 spin on the Olympic stage. This technique is a highly difficult skill that only five female athletes worldwide can perform. In response to Song Eun-yi's question, she said, "In the air, I felt like, 'Yeah, this is working. It feels good,'" sharing her feelings at the time.
Yoo Seung-eun revealed that her MBTI type is 100% introverted and expressed nervousness about appearing on the show. She said, "Since there are people I've seen on TV, I'm more nervous than at the Olympics." This indicates the pressure she felt about the broadcast appearance.
She also addressed the 'silver spoon' suspicions raised by some media and social media. In an interview, Yoo Seung-eun said, "Mom, let's pay off the debt now," revealing the difficulties in her family environment. This emphasizes that her achievements were made through her own efforts, not just her background.
Born in January 2008, Yoo Seung-eun is currently 18 years old. She became the first Korean athlete to win an Olympic medal in the freestyle category of snow sports at the 2026 Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics. Her achievement marked an important milestone in the history of Korean snowboarding.
Through this broadcast appearance, Yoo Seung-eun shared her story with many people and further publicized her journey as a snowboarder. Her experience is expected to serve as a great example for younger athletes. Yoo Seung-eun's story is not just a tale of success but a process of challenge and overcoming that inspires many.
