
Kim Tae-won of Boohwal recently expressed gratitude to junior singer IU on a broadcast and shared news about his copyright income. On the March 22 episode of KBS 2TV's variety show "The Manager Has Donkey Ears," Kim Tae-won announced, "This year marks the 40th anniversary of Boohwal's debut," and revealed that they will release a new album after 10 years. He also stated that the new song "Wind Blowing on the Sail" is scheduled to be released on March 28.
Regarding the new song, Kim Tae-won explained, "The wind can mean love or longing to some people," and said that in this song, the wind is interpreted as purity. Kim Sook commented on Kim Tae-won's statement, calling it "a guaranteed masterpiece," and questioned his copyright royalties. Kim Tae-won humbly responded about the royalties, saying, "It's hard to say they're doing well."
When Kim Sook asked about songs that generate good copyright royalties, Kim Tae-won mentioned "Never Ending Story" and "The More I Love." Jeon Hyun-moo shared that copyright income significantly increased after IU remade "Never Ending Story." Kim Tae-won drew attention by revealing, "The first quarter brought in 100 million won."
Kim Tae-won sent a video message to IU, greeting, "Nice to see you, friend. Thank you for the remake." He also mentioned junior singers Yumi and Do Won-kyung, expressing his hope that they would sing his songs.
Celebrating Boohwal's 40th anniversary and comeback, Kim Tae-won also spoke about his health issues. He said, "There was a long gap between the 13th and 14th albums because I was sick and resting." He revealed that he had faced difficulties due to stomach cancer and sepsis but has now recovered his health.
Kim Tae-won was diagnosed with early-stage stomach cancer and underwent surgery during the filming of "Qualifications of Men" in 2011. In 2016, sepsis recurred, putting him in a serious condition. He appeared on tvN's "Free Doctor" in 2023 and confessed that he lost his sense of smell due to sepsis aftereffects and also experienced problems with taste, hearing, vision, and memory.
In this broadcast, Kim Tae-won reflected on Boohwal's long history and expressed anticipation for future activities. He plans to continue Boohwal's musical legacy and pursue new musical experiments through collaborations with junior artists. The increase in Kim Tae-won's copyright income shows that his music still receives much love.
