MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama "21st Century Grand Lady" will premiere on April 10th at 9:40 PM. This drama is set in the constitutional monarchy of South Korea in the 21st century. It depicts the fate and social status-breaking romance of Seong Hee-joo, a chaebol who has everything but is of commoner status, and Prince Ian, the king's son who has nothing.
Character posters of the drama have been released. The posters capture the charisma of Seong Hee-joo (played by IU), Prince Ian (played by Byun Woo-seok), Min Jung-woo (played by Noh Sang-hyun), and Yoon Yi-rang (played by Gong Seung-yeon). They hint at their personalities and conflicts through phrases expressing their lives in a palace that blends modernity and tradition.
Seong Hee-joo reveals her intense competitive spirit with the phrase, "I'm determined to win no matter how dirty it gets." Attention is drawn to whether her determination to establish herself as a grand lady despite her commoner background will lead to social ascension.
Prince Ian creates tension with the phrase, "Do you think hunting has a season?" He is a character who has lived suppressing his true nature within the palace's order. Changes he will experience through marriage to Seong Hee-joo are highly anticipated.
Min Jung-woo shows a relaxed attitude with the phrase, "Let's just do it; it will probably be a mere incident anyway." As Prince Ian's longtime friend, he has balanced the royal family and the cabinet. He is expected to face emotional turmoil due to the marriage of Seong Hee-joo and Prince Ian.
Yoon Yi-rang delivers a meaningful message: "Is there a place for happiness in a royal marriage?" Having always prioritized the authority and dignity of the royal family, her reaction to the marriage with a commoner arouses curiosity.
"21st Century Grand Lady" portrays the efforts of four individuals with different goals as they challenge or strive to protect their given destinies. Anticipation grows for how their inevitable conflicts will unfold. The drama will premiere on April 10th at 9:40 PM.
