"King and the Man Who Lives" surpasses 15 million viewers... Ranks 3rd in all-time box office success


The movie "The Man Living with the King" has surpassed 15 million cumulative viewers. According to the distributor Showbox on the 25th, "The Man Living with the King" recorded a cumulative audience of 15 million as of that afternoon. The film was released on January 4 and surpassed 10 million viewers in 31 days, reaching 15 million viewers in 50 days.

"The Man Living with the King" exceeded the records of "Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds" with 14.41 million viewers and "Ode to My Father" with 14.25 million viewers. Currently, only "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" with 17.61 million viewers and "Extreme Job" with 16.26 million viewers have higher audience numbers than "The Man Living with the King."

The film is a historical drama about the 6th king of Joseon, Danjong, and Eom Heung-do, who stayed by his side. "The Man Living with the King" is the 34th film in history to reach 10 million viewers and is regarded as the highest-grossing film since the pandemic.

On the 25th, Showbox announced through its official SNS, "The Man Living with the King, which was released at the beginning of spring, is now preparing to welcome the cherry blossoms. The released photos show director Jang Hang-jun and main cast members Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Hae-jin, Jeon Mi-do, Yoo Ji-tae, Lee Joon-hyuk, and Kim Soo-jin behind the scenes. They conveyed warmth by commemorating the shoot with bouquets in a friendly atmosphere.

"The Man Living with the King" is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457 and tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily exiled himself for the village's revival and a young former king who was dethroned. It beautifully depicts the story of Danjong, the tragic Joseon king who lost his throne and was killed at a young age, and Eom Heung-do, who managed his final days, receiving favorable reviews.

After surpassing 14 million viewers on the 45th day since its release, the film was approaching 15 million viewers. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales system on the 25th, "The Man Living with the King" attracted 78,569 viewers on the 24th alone. This brought the cumulative audience to 14,921,382. With 70,000 to 80,000 viewers attending daily even on weekdays, surpassing 15 million viewers was considered a matter of time.

"The Man Living with the King's" revenue stands at approximately 144 billion won, ranking first among domestic releases. It surpassed the previous top-grossing films "Extreme Job" with 139.6 billion won and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" with 135.7 billion won. "The Man Living with the King" is the first film to reach 10 million viewers this year and is setting new daily records, becoming the first 10 million viewer film in two years since "The Outlaws 4."

Beyond simple box office success, the film captivates audiences with a dramatic story based on historical events. "The Man Living with the King" sheds light on the lives of tragic figures in Joseon history, leaving a deep impression on viewers.
