Shim Hyung-tak's son Haru took his first steps at 14 months old. On the March 25th episode of KBS2's variety show "The Return of Superman" (episode 614), hosted by MC Kim Jong-min and Lalal, the theme was "Here to Experience Being a Dad!" On this day, Haru succeeded in taking his first outdoor steps through walking training.

Shim Hyung-tak recalled the time when Haru used a walking aid, saying, "He took just one step at Junho's place. I thought if he tried a little more, he might take a few more steps," expressing his anticipation for Haru's walking. He prepared shoes for Haru and adjusted them to help Haru feel comfortable, cheering him on.

Haru started his first steps holding his dad's hand. Shim Hyung-tak wanted Haru to walk on his own without his help, so he prepared a dragonfly net filled with Haru's favorite snack, rice crackers. He said, "I learned this from seniors. Sam Hammington used a dragonfly net to help his child walk. Since Haru likes rice crackers, I'll encourage him to walk by himself."

Seeing the rice crackers, Haru stood up quickly and began to take steps on his own without his dad's help. Moved by Haru's first steps, Shim Hyung-tak said, "Look at how Haru is balancing. My wish is for him to walk into my arms." Haru successfully completed his first steps by finally being embraced in his dad's arms.

"The Return of Superman" has been loved by the nation for 13 years since its first broadcast in 2013. In 2023, following Eun-woo, Jung-woo ranked in the top 10 for two consecutive weeks in the TV-OTT non-drama category during the second and third weeks of June 2025. In the second week of August 2025, Haru and Shim Hyung-tak simultaneously entered the top 10 in the same category. This reflects the viewers' enthusiastic interest.

"The Return of Superman" solidified its status as a "national parenting variety show" by receiving the "Presidential Citation" at the 14th Population Day.
