IU·Starring Byun Woo-seok, '21st Century Great Madam' premieres on the 10th... A 21st-century status-based romance

MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama "21st Century Great Royal Consort" is set to premiere on the 10th. IU and Byun Woo-seok play Seong Hee-joo and Prince Ian, respectively, portraying a royal couple.

In this work, IU and Byun Woo-seok directly mentioned keywords about the relationship of the royal couple. IU described their relationship as "each other's savior," while Byun Woo-seok called it "a bond that cannot be broken." The two actors portray characters who choose a contract marriage and strive to change their destinies. Seong Hee-joo is a character who has everything but faces social limitations as a commoner born out of wedlock, while Prince Ian is the king's son who has nothing and has lived hiding himself.

IU said, "Byun Woo-seok and I briefly worked together about 10 years ago on another project, and this time we got to properly act as partners. I felt comfortable from the reading session. We shared many ideas on set and encouraged each other, building great chemistry." Byun Woo-seok also stated, "Every time we filmed, IU, the staff, and everyone showed great consideration and support, so our chemistry was really good."

"21st Century Great Royal Consort" is set in the 21st-century constitutional monarchy of South Korea and depicts a social status-breaking romance between a woman who has everything but is frustrated by her commoner status and a man who is the king's son but has nothing, as they carve out their destinies. The first broadcast will be on Friday the 10th at 9:40 PM.
