JTBC Friday series "Shining" depicts the love story of two youths spanning 10 years, and the director, writer, and actors have revealed their favorite scenes and lines.
Writer Lee Suk-yeon said the narration in episode 3, showing the transformation of Yeon Tae-seo from the past to the present, was impressive. He recalled, "I remember feeling choked up every time I read this part," and expressed deep empathy for Yeon Tae-seo's genuine acceptance of loss and loneliness after parting with Mo Eun-ah.
Park Jin-young, who plays Yeon Tae-seo, said both farewell scenes at age twenty and thirty were impressive. He explained, "Since the work delicately portrays the process of the two characters meeting and parting, the flow of time and the characters' growth made the past and present farewells feel different, which was striking."
Director Kim Yoon-jin chose the phone breakup scene between Yeon Tae-seo and Mo Eun-ah in episode 3 as her favorite. She said, "The long lines and emotions in the first breakup scene were never easy. It was even more so because they were breaking up over the phone, not in the same space," and revealed that Park Jin-young and Kim Min-joo helped each other with their acting over the phone during each other's shoots. In particular, she shared the story of Park Jin-young coming all the way down to Gyeongsang Province to assist with filming even when he had no scenes.
Kim Min-joo, who plays Mo Eun-ah, chose the line "Where, doing what, with whom" as symbolic of the two protagonists contemplating their future in the drama. She added, "It's something Mo Eun-ah always thinks about when worrying about the future. She visualizes it while looking at Yeon Tae-seo, and Yeon Tae-seo also recalls this phrase when imagining the future, so it's the line that first comes to mind when thinking of their relationship and Mo Eun-ah."
Meanwhile, "Shining" will air episodes 9 and the final episode consecutively at 8:50 p.m. on the 3rd.
