MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama "21st Century Grand Lady" is set to premiere on the 10th, with lead actors IU and Byun Woo-seok discussing the relationship and acting chemistry of their married characters in the series.
IU and Byun Woo-seok play Seong Hee-joo and Prince Ian, respectively. Seong Hee-joo is a character who has everything but faces social limitations as a commoner born out of wedlock, while Prince Ian is the king's son who has nothing and lives hiding himself. The two characters choose a contract marriage to change their respective fates.
IU described their relationship as "each other's savior," and Byun Woo-seok said they are "inseparable." The two actors revealed that their characters will be portrayed as a couple who save each other's lives.
Regarding their acting chemistry, IU said, "Byun Woo-seok and I briefly worked together about 10 years ago on another project, but this time we are properly partnering in this drama. It felt comfortable from the reading session. We shared many ideas on set and encouraged each other, building great chemistry." Byun Woo-seok also said, "Every time we filmed, IU and the staff showed great consideration and support, which really helped our chemistry."
"21st Century Grand Lady" is set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy South Korea and tells a romance that transcends social status between a woman who is a chaebol but has the status of a commoner and a man who is the king's son but has nothing. The drama will premiere on Friday the 10th at 9:40 PM.
