BTS member V (Taehyung) sparked a sensation among fans worldwide with his 'SWIM' video posted on his TikTok account (@tete_kimv). On the 26th, V took a selfie in his room with the Korean hashtag "#TikTok is difficult.. difficult", then climbed onto a chair and performed a move throwing his body toward the camera in sync with the lyrics "I just wanna dive" from "SWIM."
The video garnered over 6.9 million views, 5.85 million likes, and 320,000 comments shortly after its release. Fans from various countries responded immediately, leaving comments in different languages. An Indonesian fan said, "I thought it was dancing, but it turned into Ultraman," while a Spanish-speaking fan remarked, "We almost lost a member." English-speaking fans also reacted with comments like "This was all I expected, I can't watch because it's so funny" and "Tae, what was this."
Fans began recreating V's video, making their own versions of the 'SWIM Dive Challenge.' Videos of people throwing themselves off beds, sofas, floors, and other spaces followed, and the challenge naturally spread. On X (formerly Twitter), posts highlighting V's influence appeared, such as "V doing TikTok is a bit dangerous. He already holds the trendsetter title, and it's going to get worse," and "V's T stands for trendsetter." One fan wrote, "He said it's okay if you can't dance, but instead taught us how to fall," and another commented, "I think RM would want to try this too."
The overseas media outlet SportsKida reported, "V creates the challenge, and ARMY completes it." The hashtag V personally wrote in Korean, "TikTok is difficult," was seen as adding a sense of closeness with fans. V gained attention by surpassing 3 million followers within 48 hours after opening his TikTok account on March 13. His first post was a dance video with Jungkook and j-hope, and with the recent 'SWIM' challenge, he firmly established his presence on TikTok.
