Disney Plus has confirmed the production of the series "I Am a Sinner," based on the Kakao Webtoon, and announced the casting of Park Seo-joon, Um Tae-goo, and Jo Hye-joo as the main actors. This work is set in a lawless city during the redevelopment boom of the 1980s and will be produced as a crime action noir genre, depicting characters dreaming of turning their lives around who take dangerous choices.
The direction is handled by director Hong Won-chan, who showcased action and fast-paced development in the film "Deliver Us from Evil." The drama centers on incidents occurring in a redevelopment area ahead of the 1988 Seoul Olympics, portraying a story where various characters' desires, betrayals, and conspiracies intersect.
Park Seo-joon takes on the role of "Paeng-i," a character who shakes up the scene, promising a new acting transformation. He shared, "This was a character and story I had been waiting for. As an actor, I couldn't help but be ambitious." Um Tae-goo appears as "Saeng-dak," a member of the Bukgu faction who betrays the organization, stating, "There are various characters, and the script is interesting. I feel both nervous and excited, and I will do my best during filming." Jo Hye-joo plays "Bok-hee," at the center of drug distribution, saying, "The fun brought by the historical background and each character's circumstances and reasons were impressive. It was such an attractive work that I wanted to join immediately after reading the script."
The original webtoon was praised for its detailed narrative and portrayal of characters' inner emotions. The drama "I Am a Sinner" is being produced with the goal of worldwide release next year.
