Seo Yuri, who revealed stalking victimization, has been turned into a 'defamation suspect'... "Pointing out legal protection blind spots"

Broadcaster Seo Yu-ri revealed that she has been a victim of stalking online for several years and disclosed the difficulties she faced in the legal process. Seo Yu-ri stated on her SNS that she has been suffering from malicious posts since 2020 and endured repeated personal insults and abusive comments.

Seo Yu-ri filed a complaint against the perpetrator for violating the Stalking Punishment Act, but said the investigation process was not smooth. The police transferred the perpetrator to the prosecution after the first investigation, but the prosecution delayed the indictment due to the prosecutor's request for supplementary investigation, and the investigation has yet to reach a conclusion. Seo Yu-ri protested the delay in the investigation and filed a complaint, adding that the prosecutor in charge was replaced several times during the process.

Later, Seo Yu-ri disclosed the victimization on SNS, revealing the perpetrator's surname and the fact that the case had been transferred to the prosecution. She also posted a petition form urging severe punishment for the perpetrator based on the court's provisional measures decision. In response, the perpetrator sued Seo Yu-ri for defamation by false facts and defamation by factual statements. The perpetrator claimed that they never committed such acts and deleted all online posts before alleging defamation.

Seo Yu-ri stated that she is currently in the status of a suspect and has been transferred to the prosecution. She said, "I am living without any legal protection right now. I understand that the Stalking Punishment Act was created to protect victims. However, as a victim, I am not protected, and the person who wrote that they wished for my death for years is still free today."

Furthermore, Seo Yu-ri questioned the effectiveness of the Stalking Punishment Act, pointing out the reality where victims are sued for defamation when they speak the truth and become suspects even when petitioning for severe punishment. She stated, "The truth will surely find its rightful place."

Meanwhile, Seo Yu-ri married PD Choi Byung-gil in 2019 but completed divorce mediation last year, and it is known that she is currently pursuing a new relationship.
