Singer Kim Jang-hoon shared his personal experience regarding a past in-flight smoking incident.
Kim Jang-hoon appeared on the YouTube channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life' and detailed the situation at the time. He revealed that he had trouble because his instrument did not arrive while returning from Paris, which worsened his panic disorder symptoms. Kim said, "I caused a fuss saying I would file a lawsuit. I even took medication for panic disorder, but the instrument didn't arrive all night. I took the medicine and passed out, and when I opened my eyes, the performance was already over."
He went on to say that he took panic disorder medication on the return flight, but it was ineffective, so he took as many as 30 sleeping pills. He recalled, "My mind was out of it, so I wondered, 'If I smoke, will the siren really go off? Could it be a lie?' But it really did go off," reflecting on the incident.
After the incident, when he arrived at Incheon Airport, two detectives were waiting, and they told him to put on handcuffs, but they did not actually cuff him. Kim explained that he was fined 1 million won but the amount was reduced to 500,000 won, adding, "The difference in amount for a suspension of prosecution is significant. Anyway, it ended like that."
Kim Jang-hoon said, "Honestly, I don't remember well, but I didn't try to make excuses or claim diminished mental capacity. Regardless of the reason, it was my fault, and I said I would do my best to live with a sound mind from now on."
Meanwhile, in 2015, Kim Jang-hoon was booked on charges of violating the Aviation Security Act for smoking in the bathroom of a Korean Air flight departing from France's Charles de Gaulle Airport to Incheon International Airport, and he received a summary order for a fine of 1 million won.
