GwakTube publicly apologizes for postpartum care center sponsorship controversy... announces donation of 30 million won to support single mothers

Actress Ryu Hyun-kyung revealed her friendship by sharing photos from a trip to Jeju Island with the couple KwakTube (Kwak Jun-bin) and his wife. On the 10th, Ryu Hyun-kyung posted travel photos with KwakTube and his civil servant wife on her personal account. Among the photos was an image of KwakTube's wife, who was heavily pregnant, but her face was covered with an emoticon.

Ryu Hyun-kyung wrote, "With the warm and kind Kwak family, even I have a kind heart," and added, "As a fan of KwakTube, a close older sister to the Kwak family, and a photographer for the maternity photos, I followed them to Jeju. I am grateful and had a great time."

Meanwhile, on the same day, KwakTube posted an apology regarding the controversy over postpartum care center sponsorship. Through his personal YouTube channel, KwakTube said, "I feel heavy-hearted for causing concern due to the recent controversy surrounding my use of a postpartum care center," and explained, "After my spouse's childbirth, the care center upgraded our room and provided some services as sponsorship. At the time, I disclosed the sponsorship on social media, but I later realized that the details could cause misunderstandings, so I revised the content."

He continued, "Since my spouse is a civil servant, I sought legal advice after the controversy arose and confirmed that the sponsorship was a private contract between me and the care center and had no relation to my spouse's duties," adding, "However, regardless of the reason, I deeply feel that as a family member of a public official, I should have acted more cautiously. If there are any procedural requirements in the future, I will sincerely comply."

KwakTube also stated, "Reflecting on my lack of consideration, I plan to donate 30 million won to support single mothers, a cause I have held in my heart for a long time. I have also paid the full difference for the sponsored services to the postpartum care center."

The controversy began when KwakTube revealed his use of the postpartum care center on social media, using the facility's name along with the hashtag '#sponsorship.' Later, concerns were raised that providing some services might violate the Anti-Graft Act due to KwakTube's wife being a civil servant, and the '#sponsorship' hashtag was removed from the post.

The agency SM C&C explained, "The post shared the fact that the creator received some services (room upgrade) as a courtesy from the company," and added, "The initial use of the broad term 'sponsorship' could have caused misunderstanding that the full fee was covered, so it was corrected."

KwakTube married his civil servant wife, who is five years younger, last October, and announced the birth of their son earlier this month.
