Girls' Generation's Hyoyeon appeared on JTBC variety show "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator," revealing her dormitory life and eating habits.
In this episode, Hyoyeon opened the Girls' Generation dormitory refrigerator for the first time in 11 years. She explained that she currently lives alone in the dorm after all the members have left. Hyoyeon said, "Songdo is my hometown. To make my daily schedule comfortable and so I don't go hungry, my aunt always cooks for me. There's no better place than this," explaining why she continues living in the dorm even after 19 years since debut.
The refrigerator was stocked with simple side dishes, and Hyoyeon said that due to her recent DJ activities abroad, her aunt only prepares side dishes when she is in Korea. Among the side dishes prepared by her aunt, such as braised quail eggs, rolled omelet, and stir-fried dried shredded squid, Hyoyeon revealed that she likes the stir-fried dried shredded squid the most. She said, "I eat a bowl of rice with just this."
Regarding her eating habits, Hyoyeon said she usually eats late at 12 or 1 a.m., having simple meals like natto with fried eggs, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice, or blended yam, apple, and milk. She mostly eats dinner out and recently has been obsessed with sundae gukbap (Korean blood sausage soup), visiting popular restaurants in Cheongnyangni and Gunja. Tiffany Young mentioned that Hyoyeon tends to eat the same food repeatedly for months once she gets hooked. Hyoyeon said, "I'm the type to stick to one thing. I eat it until the place closes."
About the perilla seed powder found in the refrigerator, Hyoyeon explained that she bought it herself at the market. She also said she enjoys smoked chicken as a beer snack and late-night meal. Hyoyeon said, "At 10 or 11 p.m., I always crave beer. Before, I ordered a lot of delivery food, but I gained a lot of weight," adding that recently she has been eating chicken legs and canned tuna as snacks.
The refrigerator also contained lemongrass and okra. Hyoyeon explained that she likes Southeast Asian food, so she keeps lemongrass, and she likes the slippery texture of okra. She also said she often eats chicken gizzards, which are low in calories and have a good texture.
In the episode, at Hyoyeon's request, the chefs competed by making dishes with strong flavors and beer snacks. Choi Hyun-seok won the first round, and Jung Ho-young won the second. Hyoyeon expressed satisfaction with all the dishes, saying, "I'll lose weight on my own, so please make it spicy."
