The group BTS received significant attention locally for their 'World Tour "Arirang" in Tokyo' concert held at the Tokyo Dome. Japan's five major sports newspapers—Nikkan Sports, Sports Nippon, Sports Hochi, Sankei Sports, and Daily Sports—extensively covered BTS's concert news on their front pages over the two days of the 17th and 18th.
This concert marked the first time in about seven years since July 2019's 'BTS World Tour "Love Yourself: Speak Yourself" - Japan Edition' that the full group performed on a Japanese stage, with both shows selling out completely. Japanese media emphasized the significance and excitement of the event with phrases such as "full group return after seven years," "Tokyo Dome frenzy," and "reunion with ARMY (fanbase name)."
Convenience stores near the Tokyo Dome were crowded from early morning with fans trying to purchase newspapers related to BTS, and some stores experienced early sellouts of the newspapers.
BTS's popularity was also confirmed in album sales. According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan, BTS's fifth full album 'Arirang' surpassed 750,000 cumulative shipments as of March, earning a Gold Disc 'Triple Platinum' certification. This is their second Triple Platinum certification following their fourth Japanese full album 'MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ~THE JOURNEY~,' and the certification was achieved just 11 days after the album's release on the 20th of last month. It is also the first work this year to receive a Triple Platinum certification among albums released in Japan and overseas.
BTS also showed remarkable results on the Japanese Oricon charts. In the 'Weekly Streaming Rising Ranking' compiled from April 6 to April 12, new tracks '2.0' and 'Hooligan' ranked first and third respectively, while existing hits 'Butter,' 'Dynamite,' and 'Permission to Dance' also entered the top 10.
