Trainer and broadcaster Yang Chi-seung recently revealed his current situation on the SBS variety show "My Ugly Duckling."
In the episode, Kim Jong-min and Heo Kyung-hwan were shown helping Yang Chi-seung find a new job. Yang Chi-seung stated that he is currently overseeing an apartment community facility, managing various amenities such as breakfast service, a gym, a golf course, and a sky lounge. He said, "I went from being a boss to an employee. So these days, I keep smiling. I can't afford not to smile."
He also explained the process of closing the gym he used to operate. He said, "It was a donated building. But no one informed the tenants. So all the tenants were evicted. The funny thing is, they didn't even return the deposits, saying they had no money." Although the total damage was reported as 1.5 billion won on the show, he added that the actual amount is even higher. He revealed that he took out a mortgage loan on his apartment and is still repaying it, and that he sold his vehicle to refund the members.
Yang Chi-seung said, "Compared to when I was earning a lot, my income is one-tenth now. At first, I thought, 'I'll just take the loss myself and move on.' But one or two people came to the gym, and I realized this wasn't just my problem." He added, "I'm in my 50s. At this age, I should be living stably, but I'm starting over from scratch."
He initially did not inform his family about the situation, but his children found out after it was revealed on the show. He said, "One day, my kids stopped taking private lessons. In the summer, they took away the air conditioner remote. It broke my heart."
He also shared a story about actress Park Ha-na contacting him and helping when the gym closed. He expressed gratitude, saying, "Park Ha-na asked for my account number, and after a 30-minute struggle, I reluctantly gave it to her. When we were a bit short on money to refund the members, her help was a big support."
