ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama "Scarecrow" surpassed a 4% viewership rating by its second episode, ranking first among Monday-Tuesday dramas. The second episode, aired on the 21st, achieved nationwide ratings of 4.1%, 4.2% in the metropolitan area, and a 1.5% rating among the 2049 target demographic based on Nielsen Korea's paid households, with a peak minute rating of 4.5%. The premiere episode recorded a 2.9% rating.

This drama is a crime investigation thriller about detective Kang Tae-joo (played by Park Hae-soo), who chases the true culprit of a serial murder case and unexpectedly forms a cooperation with prosecutor Cha Si-young (played by Lee Hee-joon), whom he despised. The story employs a cross-structure between 1988 and 2019 and is inspired by the real-life serial murder case of Lee Chun-jae.

In episode 2, Kang Tae-joo officially began investigating as the lead detective on the serial murder case. He sought out surviving victims and, following advice from police officer Lee Sook-hee (played by Lee Ji-hye), met Park Ae-sook (played by Hwang Eun-hoo), who had been kidnapped about a month earlier but escaped. Initially uncomfortable with the police visit, Park Ae-sook opened up after Kang Tae-joo said, "You were lucky," and provided testimony about the perpetrator's crime patterns.

The investigation team planned a sting operation where female officers disguised themselves as ordinary pedestrians to catch the culprit. However, the investigation faced difficulties when Officer Lee was injured and withdrew, and prosecutor Cha Si-young, assigned to public security cases, mobilized detectives for riot control. Consequently, team leader Kim Man-chun (played by Baek Hyun-jin) deployed Seo Ji-won (played by Kwak Sun-young) as a substitute.

On the night of the sting operation, the culprit, waiting for a woman wearing a skirt, eventually approached Kim Mi-yeon (played by Kim Gye-rim), who was wearing pants. While attempting the crime, the culprit noticed Seo Ji-won in a skirt, whispered something mysterious to Kim Mi-yeon, and disappeared. A chase ensued in a cornfield, and when Kang Tae-joo found Seo Ji-won, she was already collapsed with blood on her head.

Meanwhile, Kang Tae-joo's younger sister Kang Soon-young (played by Seo Ji-hye) was hospitalized after being assaulted by her colleague and county governor's nephew Jeon Kyung-ho (played by Kang Jung-woo). This incident occurred after Cha Si-young revealed to Jeon Kyung-ho the secret that the siblings' mother used to be a bar madam. When Jeon Kyung-ho repeatedly mentioned this, Kang Tae-joo struck him and was arrested. Cha Si-young visited Kang Tae-joo in the detention center and said, "I told you. I will find everything. You and the case."
