Ahn Hyo-seop recently appeared on the YouTube channel 'Fairy Jaehyung' and recalled his days as an idol trainee and his journey into the entertainment industry.
Ahn Hyo-seop explained how he came to Korea after being contacted by JYP Entertainment while he was a high school student in Canada. He revealed that the company reached out first by inquiring about Asian students at his local school. He said, "I think I was in the first or second year of high school. My mother said she thought I would go to Korea someday."
Regarding his life as an idol trainee, he shared that despite his love for music, the repetitive practice felt like work and was difficult. He explained, "I think I had the thought that music should definitely remain a hobby," adding that dancing was especially challenging during his trainee days, and due to his shortcomings, he ended his trainee life. He also shared an episode where he walked down the streets of Apgujeong after his debut was canceled and called his parents, crying. "That was the first time I cried and said, 'Father, I'm sorry.' You trusted me and sent me off," he said.
Later, through an introduction from an acquaintance, he met the CEO of his current agency and began acting. Even after debuting, he continued to have concerns about acting, but he found answers through his meeting with Han Suk-kyu while appearing in 'Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim 2.' Ahn Hyo-seop described Han Suk-kyu as "a good adult like a father," saying, "When I worried about acting, he said, 'Are you going to keep acting? Since you're going to keep doing it anyway, why worry?'"
Recently gaining attention for the Netflix animation 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' he revealed the story behind being cast by director Maggie Kang thanks to his English acting in the drama 'Business Proposal.' He said, "So you really have to work hard at everything. You never know when or where opportunities will come," stating that his experiences since his trainee days have led to his current achievements.
Ahn Hyo-seop also opened up about his concerns regarding the reality of acting as a profession and the life that comes with being a celebrity. He expressed his gratitude, saying that receiving love from fans allowed him to continue acting.
