SM Entertainment won a civil lawsuit against the operator of 'Quitter Detention Center'. On the 22nd, the 14th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled that SM must be paid a total of 170 million won in damages in the lawsuit filed by SM against 'Quitter Detention Center'.
According to this ruling, 'Quitter Detention Center' must compensate aespa, EXO, Red Velvet, and other artists with 130 million won, and pay 30 million won to their agency, SM Entertainment. The court judged that the videos posted on the channel negatively affected public perception of aespa, EXO, and Red Velvet. It also emphasized that the singers' images and external reputations are key assets of the company, stating that this caused substantial obstacles to business operations and work performance.
Prior to this case, 'Quitter Detention Center' had lost lawsuits filed by 'IVE' Jang Wonyoung, and 'BTS' V and Jungkook, ordering the payment of tens of millions of won in damages. Regarding the criminal complaint, the Supreme Court upheld the original ruling in January, sentencing 'Quitter Detention Center' to two years in prison with a three-year probation and ordering a fine of 211.42 million won for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.
It was revealed that 'Quitter Detention Center' spread rumors related to celebrities through the channel from October 2021 to June 2023.
