'Squid Game' won Best Drama at the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film
Festival (BIFAN).
The
26th Bucheon International Film Festival, held on the 7th, is the first time in
the world to establish a 'Series Film Award', and at the opening ceremony, the
Netflix original drama 'Squid Game' was awarded this award.
On
this day, Executive Chairman Shin Cheol said, “The fusion of culture and
technology is creating various forms of visual storytelling. Series videos
should also be accepted as movies”. He explains the reason for establishing the
'Series Film Award.'
“The definition of a movie
running under two hours is one of the ways to maximize profits from an industry
perspective”. He explained.
In
addition, executive chairman Shin asked, "If 'Harry Potter' or 'Star
Wars', of which 7 and 8 have been released are movies, then why not 'Squid
Game'? It's a special suggestion from Bucheon for Korea create a new definition
of film.
He
added, "This is the world's first attempt to expand the cinema sector to
the global film industry."
Kim
Ji-yeon, the producer of 'Squid Game', which won the Series Film Award, said,
"As of today, 'Squid Game' is a movie. Once again, thank you very much for

awarding us."
