Actress Park Min Young has taken a stance regarding her summons by the prosecution for investigation. On February 15, Hook Entertainment, the agency representing her, made an official announcement regarding the matter. The agency stated that she had complied with the prosecutor's summons. However, the company also commented on the entry ban, saying, "Park Min Young has seriously cooperated in the investigation as a witness to the incident. We confirm that she is not currently prohibited from leaving the country. We apologize for the delayed response."
According to reports, the prosecutors investigated whether businessman Kang Jong Hyun was involved with Park Min Young in the process of making ill-gotten gains through embezzlement and breach of trust. The Seoul South District Court stated that prosecutors launched a comprehensive investigation, confiscated and searched branches of Bithumb — a cryptocurrency exchange — to uncover a plot to steal money and manipulate the stock prices of Kang Jong Hyun and his brother.
Earlier, Park Min Young's sister, Park Min Ah, was accused of coming out to manage the company to hide the real business owner, Kang Jong Hyun. She was appointed director on March 3. Kang Jong Hyun is believed to be the undisclosed chairman of Bithumb, the No. 1 electronic exchange in South Korea, which holds about 34 percent of the shares. However, employees in the company did not know about Kang Jong Hyun, as his name did not appear in any company documents.
On October 10, Park Min Young and Kang Jong Hyun were caught up in love rumors, but Park Min Young broke up with Kang Jong Hyun just two days after the news broke.
