Nam Gyuri has returned to music after 14 years. The first track of her new music project album, "Heartache," contains the pain she has endured and her earnest desire for a new beginning. Nam Gyuri revealed that she found her true voice through this song.
Regarding the start of the music project, Nam Gyuri said, "It was really by chance," explaining that the idea to create music came up during a meeting with a director, an entertainment CEO, and her manager last Chuseok. She added that the project officially began about a month later when she was contacted.
She said that the process of picking up the microphone again was not easy. Nam Gyuri recalled, "When I first received the guide, I was kicked out of the recording studio within 30 minutes," and mentioned that after the composer told her, "Find your color within a few weeks," the tough practice began. She added that she had to completely relearn singing in a way that sounded like speaking, abandoning the thick and powerful voice she had during her SeeYa days.
When asked why she endured a long hiatus of 14 years, Nam Gyuri said, "Although my singing career was short and intense, when I left SeeYa, I thought I would never be able to do music again." She shared that the atmosphere made it difficult to balance acting and singing, but the thirst for music always remained.
The song title "Heartache" carries a lot of meaning. Nam Gyuri explained, "It is a song that reflects my painful times as they were," and said it resembles her life, which experienced great love but also great pain. She revealed that after seeing the lyrics "love discarded in a circle," she decided to start anew with this song.
Nam Gyuri is currently living in the mountains. She said, "High-rise apartments don't suit me," and prefers quiet places. She used to live by the river but felt lonely because she couldn't sense the changing seasons. Now, with the mountains nearby, she can clearly see the four seasons and feels grateful even just by taking walks.
She also explained why she started YouTube. Nam Gyuri said, "I had many offers to start YouTube before, but I rejected them because I wasn't confident I could keep it up with provocative concepts," and added that she began capturing everyday moments at the suggestion of her music production team. She emphasized that she wanted to show her true self without subtitles or direction.
Nam Gyuri values communication with her fans. She said, "Many people see me as a mysterious figure, but that's not true at all," and revealed that she started Bubble to communicate directly with fans. She also mentioned performing carols at home during Christmas and how small incidents helped close the distance with her fans.
Mentioning SeeYa's 20th anniversary, Nam Gyuri said that fans' feelings should come first. She shared, "I felt the fans earnestly wish for the three of us to reunite once again," and spoke about the possibility of a reunion. She also said, "Seeing other groups reunite makes me envious, and I definitely want to perform on stage at least once for the fans."
She expressed that after going through difficult times in the past, she now feels her true sincerity is reaching the public. Nam Gyuri mentioned that "Sugarman" was a major turning point, saying that before that, there were only negative stories, and even after switching to acting, she had to work hard to get opportunities. However, she said that since "Sugarman," her true feelings have gradually started to be recognized.
Finally, Nam Gyuri apologized to her fans, saying, "I'm really sorry for making you wait so long," and emphasized that her new songs are like confessions dedicated to her fans. She expressed her hope, "I wish we could be together even if someday I'm using a cane," showing how much she cherishes her relationship with her fans.
