
Mark of the group NCT has terminated his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment and will leave the team to start independent activities. SM Entertainment announced in an official statement that after long discussions about Mark's future activities, they agreed to conclude the exclusive contract as of April 8. As a result, Mark will end all activities with NCT, including NCT 127 and NCT DREAM.
SM Entertainment stated that since Mark's debut with NCT in 2016, he has shown outstanding capabilities both as a group member and as a solo artist. They expressed gratitude for the past ten years together and support for his new leap forward. They also explained that NCT 127 will continue activities as a seven-member group, and NCT DREAM will continue as a six-member group. SM emphasized that they will continue to provide full support for the activities of NCT members.
Mark candidly shared his dreams and passion for new challenges in a handwritten letter. He mentioned the dream he has held since his trainee days and revealed his enthusiasm for creative pursuits such as acoustic guitar and writing. Mark said, "I awakened all my senses and pondered for a long time, wondering what the completed form of that dream would be," expressing his determination for the future by saying he wants to "dive" toward his dream. He also conveyed his affection and gratitude to the members, saying, "Just thinking about it brings me to tears."
NCT members also supported Mark in their own ways. Jisung shared on the fan platform that although he initially felt sad about Mark's decision, he wants to support him from afar, knowing all the hard work Mark has done. Doyoung expressed understanding of Mark's feelings and promised endless support, emphasizing the trust among the members. Jeno comforted fans by saying that even if they feel sad for a while, they will create happy memories again.
