Kim Yong-bin Returns Triumphantly to Daegu: The 'Trot Prince' Raised by Suseong-gu

Singer Kim Yong-bin visited his hometown of Daegu to reminisce about his childhood and share warm moments with the local elders.
In a recent episode of KBS 2TV's 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant,' Kim Yong-bin was shown spending a heartwarming time in Suseong-gu, Daegu, where his alma mater and favorite local spots remain unchanged.
A banner celebrating his successful return was still hanging at the main gate of his alma mater, Suseong Elementary School, catching everyone's attention. Kim Yong-bin expressed his pride, saying, "I didn't know it was still there, but I'm so touched to see the banner."
The reaction from local residents he met while walking was equally enthusiastic. In particular, mothers getting their hair done at a hair salon recognized him immediately, exclaiming, "You’ve truly become a success!" and "We’ve hit the jackpot today!" They welcomed him as if he were their own grandson, proving his popularity as a trot star.
Kim Yong-bin also visited a stationery store with a 26-year history that he had frequented since kindergarten. The owner recognized him instantly, calling him by his birth name, "Yeong-bin," and welcomed him back for the first time in 10 years.
Remarkably, the owner had carefully preserved Kim Yong-bin's debut album from 2004, complete with his signature. Seeing the signature he had written as a child moved Kim Yong-bin deeply. The owner also shared a touching story about how he had encouraged acquaintances to vote for Kim when he appeared on an audition program, cheering for him more fervently than anyone else.
His next stop was a snack bar he had visited almost every day during his school years. The owner burst into tears of joy upon seeing the adult Kim Yong-bin and took him into her arms.
The owner recalled Kim's childhood, when he was known as the 'Prince of Suseong-gu,' saying, "Back then, your grandmother would call and ask me to prepare a pork cutlet for 'our prince,' so I would cut it in advance and wait for you." While eating the pork cutlet and gimbap filled with memories of his grandmother's love, Kim Yong-bin expressed his gratitude, saying, "I feel like the elders of this neighborhood raised me together."
This visit home was a precious time to see the human side of 'Kim Yong-bin,' not as a glamorous singer on stage, but as a person who grew up receiving an abundance of love from his entire community.
