IU Reveals 'Philosophy of Love' on YouTube: "True Love Is Not About Wanting"
Singer and actor IU revealed his thoughts on love along with behind-the-scenes footage of the drama ’21st Century Great Madam.’
In the video titled ’Tears over this week’s final episode news.. | 21st Century Great Madam Behind the Scenes,’ recently released on the YouTube channel ’Lee Jigeum,’ IU, who plays the role of Sung Hee-joo, filmed a scene where she kneels before her father to ask for help after her contract marriage is revealed. In the scene, IU said, ″I gave up all my pride in front of love,″ adding, ″I thought Wan-i should understand this kind of love, but seeing that I want her to understand it makes me wonder if I haven’t loved enough yet. True love seems not to be about wanting the other person to recognize it.″
When the production team asked whether this thought was IU’s philosophy or the character’s philosophy, IU replied, ″I think it’s my philosophy.″ She further explained, ″Hee-joo probably doesn’t have such a philosophy because she hasn’t experienced deep love yet.″
Regarding the scene where Hee-joo kneels before her father, IU said, ″Hee-joo’s relationship with her father is so complex and delicate that it must have been even harder,″ adding, ″Kneeling before her father felt much more humiliating and difficult than kneeling before the entire nation. It was a scene where she asked for help as if grasping at straws.″
IU continued her tearful acting off-screen to maintain chemistry with co-star Byun Woo-seok, who expressed his gratitude to IU after filming. The two actors were also seen sharing joy by high-fiving after filming another scene.
Previously, in the ’Lee Jigeum-Mini Palette’ video, IU shared her thoughts, saying, ″When you truly love, you don’t have to keep talking about love like that.″
Meanwhile, IU and Lee Jong-suk began publicly dating in December 2022, and the two have indirectly mentioned each other at official events or have been spotted together at concerts. MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama ’21st Century Great Madam’ airs every Friday at 9:50 PM and Saturday at 9:40 PM.
