Ryu Eeseo Experienced Attempted Illegal Filming on Plane Sung Haeun Also Shares Flight Attendant Difficulties

Ryu Eeseo revealed an experience where she was almost illegally filmed by a male passenger while working as a flight attendant. In a video released on June 10 on the YouTube channel ’My Love Ryu Eeseo,’ Ryu Eeseo talked with Sung Haeun, a cast member from TVING’s ’Transit Love 2,’ about the airline hiring process, flight attendant organizational culture, and difficulties they faced while working.

Ryu Eeseo has worked at Asiana Airlines, and Sung Haeun has experience at Korean Air. Although they worked for different airlines, they expressed empathy for the difficulties female flight attendants face. Ryu Eeseo explained that while providing service to passengers, she felt something strange and looked down to see a man lying prone doing something. Since she was wearing a skirt uniform, it felt like he was filming her legs or under her skirt, and she immediately informed the manager about the situation. She added that she became more sensitive to photos or filming acts afterward. The video did not specifically disclose whether the passenger was actually filming or if illegal filming was caught.

Sung Haeun also mentioned a similar experience. She said that when she was a flight attendant living in Seongnam, some people found flight attendants in uniform fascinating and took photos of them on the subway. The two shared that despite the glamorous image of flight attendants, female flight attendants face realistic hardships such as illegal filming and unwanted physical contact.

They also shared experiences about the hierarchical order within the airline. Ryu Eeseo said there was a culture where new flight attendants had to make morning calls to their seniors during overseas stays. The junior had to call the senior, state their affiliation and batch, and confirm by asking, ″Have you woken up?″ If the morning call was not made, the senior would ask, ″Why didn’t you do it?″ Regardless of age, seniors had to be called ″unnie″ (older sister), and in the elevator, the youngest had to press the button and wait until all seniors boarded before entering last. During overseas stays, there was an atmosphere where juniors had to accompany seniors when they went out to eat or for outings, and if they did not attend, people would say, ″Maybe someone is sick.″

They also mentioned that in the past, junior flight attendants not only made morning calls but even washed stockings for seniors. However, they clarified that this was not something they personally experienced but cases they heard from seniors.

Regulations regarding appearance management as flight attendants were also mentioned. Sung Haeun said that during an overseas stay, she forgot her cosmetics pouch, but since makeup was mandatory, she completed her makeup using only concealer and a pencil found in her carry-on bag. Ryu Eeseo said that during training, they had to wear red nail polish to easily check nail care, and even after joining, they had to use mascara and colored lip products without fail.

Sung Haeun said she started her first job as a childcare teacher at age 23 and began preparing to become a flight attendant at 24. During a time when airline recruitment was rare in 2017, she failed the Asiana Airlines interview but was accepted by Korean Air and worked there for about five years. Regarding her reason for leaving, she said she wanted to do something as Sung Haeun rather than just being one company employee. She later appeared on ’Transit Love 2’ at the suggestion of an ex-partner and began broadcasting activities.
