Seungri (real name Lee Seung-hyun, 35) has been sued on charges of special assault, but he claimed that he did not threaten the other party and stated that he is considering a countersuit for false accusation.

The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul received a report on the 26th of last month that a man in his 30s, Mr. A, had filed a complaint against Seungri on charges of special assault and is currently investigating the case. The incident occurred on August 8th from around 6:00 a.m. for about 40 minutes at a sundae soup restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul. At the time, Seungri was dining with two acquaintances, and it was reported that there was a conflict with Mr. A.

In an interview with Ilgan Sports, Seungri explained the situation at the time of the incident. He said that Mr. A requested to join his group, and there was a dispute during the refusal. He admitted to holding a bottle of alcohol during the process but stated that he did not swing it or threaten the other party. Seungri said, ″I only held it but did not swing or threaten.″

Furthermore, Seungri claimed that after the incident, the two sat together, talked, drank alcohol, and exchanged contact information. He also said that Mr. A saw him off and later contacted him saying, ″I will bring a business plan next week.″ Seungri expressed surprise that Mr. A filed a complaint claiming damages a few days later under these circumstances.

Seungri asserted that he has secured text messages, internal CCTV footage from the restaurant, statements from restaurant staff who witnessed the situation, and testimony from a valet who saw him seeing Mr. A off, and expressed his intention to reveal the truth.

Meanwhile, Seungri was previously tried on nine charges related to the Burning Sun scandal and was convicted by the Supreme Court in May 2022 on all charges including habitual gambling, prostitution and mediation of prostitution, filming using a camera, embezzlement, violation of foreign exchange laws, and instigation of special assault, receiving a confirmed sentence of one year and six months in prison. The special assault instigation charge was related to an incident in December 2015 at a pub in Gangnam, Seoul, where he allegedly informed Yoo In-seok, former CEO of Yuri Holdings, about a dispute, leading to the involvement of organized crime to threaten the other party. Seungri was released from Yeoju Prison in February 2023.
