The Korean film "Broker"
by Hirokazu Koreda received the top prize at the 39th Munich Film Festival.
On April 3, according to the
homepage of the Munich Film Festival, at the closing ceremony on April 2 (local
time), the jury selected "Broker" (director Goreda Hirokazu) as the
work to receive the Ari Award - the highest award of the Film Festival.
In the competition section, there
are 10 films, including 'Broker', '8 Mountains' directed by Charlotte Van
Dermirich and Felix Van Groningen, and 'Leila's Brothers' directed by Saed
Rustai.
The jury, Gibel Kequally said:
"It's a film filled with nostalgia, determination and twists. Finding
ourselves and each other", he commented, "We found a part of
ourselves in this movie".
Broker is the first Korean film
directed by Hirokazu Koreeda in collaboration with Korean producers and actors
such as Song Kang Ho, Kang Dong Won, Bae Doo Na, Lee Ji Eun, and Lee Joo Young.
The film depicts their unexpected journey, including Dong-Soo (played by Kang
Dong Won) and So Young (IU).
Song Kang Ho - who took on the role
of Sang Hyun - the seller of abandoned children - received the best actor award
at the first Cannes International Film Festival in Korea for the role of
Broker. Director Hirokazu Koreeda won the top prize at the 2018 Munich Film
Festival.
