BTS’s V: Why Did He Volunteer for the SDT? Overcoming Acrophobia with Mental Strength

V, a member of the group BTS, made his first post-discharge appearance on the YouTube channel 'Fairy Jae-hyung,' gathering attention by revealing behind-the-scenes stories of his military service.

V drew significant attention by volunteering for the Special Duty Team (SDT) under the Army Capital Defense Command during his service. Regarding his motivation, V stated, "Since I had to serve anyway, I wanted to push my limits physically rather than mentally." He added, "I heard the training was tough, but I thought it was a place where I could receive exceptional training," showing his bold side as a young man rather than just an artist.

The most surprising fact was that V overcame his long-standing acrophobia (fear of heights) in the military. Speaking about 'Rappel Training,' one of the SDT's core exercises, he said, "I was actually very worried at first because of my severe fear of heights, but thanks to repeated training and support from my comrades, I eventually overcame it." His growth, jumping from high places and shaking off fear, has become an inspiration to many.

V, who built up his physical strength through consistent exercise during his service, also shared a funny episode from his reunion with BTS members. Upon seeing V’s remarkably bulked-up physique, the members were shocked and teased him, saying, "Are you retiring as a singer now?" V expressed his deep love for fans, saying, "I promised the fans I would return healthier, and I worked out really hard to keep that promise."

Meanwhile, V, who has grown significantly both physically and mentally through his military life, continues his activities with BTS for 'ALILANG.'
